Venture capital firm Crit Ventures has made a follow-on investment in Avertone, the developer of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) "Zeus: God of Arrogance".

Crit Ventures said on Thursday it executed the investment through a project fund of about 6 billion won formed for investing in Avertone. It is the second investment following an initial one in 2024.

Avertone is a game developer founded by CEO Kim Dae-hwan (김대훤), who oversaw development of titles including Nexon’s "Prasia War" and "Dave the Diver". Zeus, its first title released last month, ranked No. 1 in sales on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Zeus is an MMORPG made with Unreal Engine 5. It applies a worldview that reinterprets Greek mythology, large-scale battles and a separate class specialised for economic activities. It is also designed to have users compete with others at similar stages of growth.

Avertone plans to focus on long-term service for Zeus while improving the completeness of two next titles currently under development, with the aim of growing into a multi-title developer.

Kim said, "The goal was to prove a new developer’s technology and planning capabilities with our first title, and we confirmed that potential." He added, "We will run it as a service loved over the long term, while also presenting new fun in the follow-up projects we are preparing."

Lee Dong-woo (이동우), a director at Crit Ventures, said, "Avertone’s capabilities have been proven by Zeus’s performance." He added, "We will continue support so it can grow into a developer that takes on games across multiple genres."
