Kakao holds first public innovation awards, selects 30 best-practice cases

Kakao selected 30 public innovation cases that used its services such as KakaoTalk and Kakao Map to improve administrative efficiency and public convenience. The company held the inaugural 2026 Kakao Public Innovation Awards on Sept. 8 in Seoul, with about 140 attendees from 30 organisations and Kakao. Winners were chosen after external expert reviews based on criteria including innovation, performance and sustainability. Kakao will provide 300 million won worth of ad coupons and run AI training for the public sector.

Korea OTT Forum, journalism society to hold seminar on future of local broadcasting in AI, OTT era

The Korea OTT Forum and a research group under the Korean Association for Journalism and Communication Studies will hold a special seminar on Sept. 11 at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju, they said on Saturday. Held during the 2026 ACE Fair and hosted by Gwangju MBC, the seminar will discuss response strategies and policy support for local broadcasters facing challenges from OTT, global platforms and generative AI.

Kakao holds AI ideathon with five national universities; 145 students take part

Kakao will work with 145 students from five regional national universities to develop agentic AI services aimed at solving social problems. The company said it held the Kakao Tech Campus Ideathon on Aug. 22 and 23 with students from Kangwon, Kyungpook, Pusan, Chonnam and Chungnam National Universities. Kakao has shifted this year’s curriculum from web and app development to planning and developing agentic AI services.
