Webzen to run youth coding workshop in 2026, support patent filings by Seongnam high school students
Webzen said on Thursday it has finalised its social contribution programme plan and will begin operating the “Youth Coding Workshop with Webzen” in 2026. Run with the Seongnam Youth Foundation, the initiative will offer coding courses, problem-based learning club activities and a high school programme in partnership with Pangyo and Yatap youth centres. Winning teams in an ICT invention contest will receive patent attorney advice and full filing costs.

South Korea to foster AI services; Park says Korea needs its own Anthropic
South Korea is moving beyond building homegrown AI foundation models to developing an AI service ecosystem with global competitiveness. Deputy Prime Minister and Science and ICT Minister Park Kyung-hoon chaired a meeting with companies involved in the independent AI foundation model project and major platform and AI firms. Park called for a shift from model development to market and ecosystem building, stressed a two to three-year investment window, and outlined separate approaches for conglomerates and startups.

Science ministry and SMEs ministry hold briefing for startups to avoid confusion over AI Basic Law
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT held an “AI Startup Growth Strategy Briefing” with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups on Jan. 28 in Seoul to share key provisions of the AI Basic Law with AI startups. The ministries also explained related legislation and support programmes, including AI Challenge and Deep Tech Challenge Project. Officials said they would operate the law to avoid hindering innovation and strengthen communication with startups.
