IBM shrinks z17 mainframe to lower barrier to AI infrastructure
IBM has unveiled a smaller z17 mainframe and a LinuxONE 5 server lineup targeting on-premise enterprise AI demand. The products include single-frame and rack-mounted z17 systems, plus LinuxONE Rockhopper 5 and LinuxONE 5 Express. IBM said the z17 now fits a standard 19-inch rack. It said the new systems support real-time AI inference, fraud detection and automated decision-making without moving data to the cloud, alongside updated software and security features.

LG CNS launches agentic AI-based enterprise development platform
LG CNS said on June 8 it launched an agentic artificial intelligence-based development platform, DevOn Agentic AIND, to cover the full process of building and operating large IT systems. The company said “vibe coding” had limits for enterprise use. It said AIND uses specialised AI agents and a structured enterprise IT database for customised development, adopts spec-driven development to minimise hallucinations and errors, and supports converting COBOL systems to Java.

Fujitsu unveils document automation AI cutting legacy code understanding time by 97 percent
Fujitsu has launched a generative AI service that analyses legacy source code, including COBOL, and automatically produces design documents. The company said it aims to cut code understanding and documentation work from hours to minutes and reduce reliance on specialist staff. Fujitsu said it cut time needed to understand complex code by about 97 percent and improved document comprehensiveness and readability using enhanced retrieval linking large codebases via a knowledge graph.
