BNY Mellon subsidiary joins MiCA register as ESMA adds 15 providers
The European Securities and Markets Authority added 15 crypto-asset service providers to the MiCA register, lifting the total number of registered entities to 309. The update includes BNY SA/NV, a Belgian subsidiary of BNY Mellon, along with four banks and digital asset platforms. It was the third post-deadline update since the July 1 transition date. Registrations rose most in Germany and Denmark, with three additions each.

Bitget registers as financial service provider to expand New Zealand business
Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has registered as a financial service provider with New Zealand’s Financial Service Providers Register (FSPR). The registration allows Bitget to expand services in New Zealand, including foreign exchange conversion, domestic and international remittances, custody of client assets, and portfolio and fund management. Bitget has been widening licences and registrations in various countries. It has also announced plans for a European headquarters in Vienna and appointed Oliver Stauber as Bitget EU chief executive.

Digital euro to use European standards instead of Visa, Mastercard
The European Central Bank will adopt three European open payment standards for the digital euro infrastructure to reduce reliance on Visa and Mastercard in the euro zone, BeInCrypto reported on April 26. The ECB signed agreements with the European Cards Payment Cooperation, the Nexo Standards and the Berlin Group. The standards cover contactless payments, merchant and ATM transactions, and account-based transfers. Separately, major European banks are expanding moves to embed cryptocurrency trading into existing regulated platforms.
