EU\'s von der Leyen joins calls to slow AI development, pushes talks with top labs

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has joined discussions on slowing the pace of advanced artificial intelligence development and plans to invite leading AI labs to Brussels to discuss how regulators can support efforts to manage frontier systems. In an annual address in Strasbourg, she warned of risks from increasingly powerful AI, including self-improving models. She cited the EU AI Act and called for expanded cross-border cooperation on testing and evaluation, including Canada and Britain.
