Assembly science committee approves bill to set up Korea Broadcast Media Telecom Promotion Agency
South Korea’s National Assembly Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee approved amendments to create the Korea Broadcast Media Telecom Promotion Agency under a broadcast media telecom commission. The bill would merge the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corp and the Viewer Media Foundation, dissolving both on launch, with a planned 2027 start. The proposal faces hurdles including opposition party resistance, disputes over employment succession and business scope, and pushback from related ministries and organisations.

Korea broadcast media telecom commission discusses K-content distribution with U.S. broadcaster Sinclair
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Telecom Commission met Del Parks of U.S. terrestrial broadcaster Sinclair on March 19 to discuss distribution of Korean content and next-generation broadcasting technologies. Sinclair outlined its channel business structure and plans for Korean content, trends in AI-based broadcasting technology and revenue models using next-generation broadcast technology. It expressed willingness to cooperate, including supplying Korean content through U.S. terrestrial networks and expanding new services.

Lee names Kim Jong-cheol as first Broadcast Media Telecom Panel chief
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung appoints Yonsei University law professor Kim Jong-cheol as the inaugural chair of the Broadcast Media Telecom Commission. The presidential office also announces the selection of lawyer Ryu Shin-hwan as a presidential member of the seven-member body. Lee additionally appoints Kim Yi-tak as first vice minister at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport after the previous vice minister resigned over inappropriate remarks related to real estate prices.
