BitMEX proposes \'canary fund\' instead of pre-emptive freeze on dormant bitcoin

Crypto exchange BitMEX proposed an alternative to pre-emptively freezing bitcoin vulnerable to quantum computers, introducing a “canary” approach that would activate a freeze only if a real threat is demonstrated. It suggested creating a special bitcoin address whose private key is unknown but valid, with users sending bitcoin as a bounty. If funds are withdrawn, it would signal a quantum threat. The proposal is positioned as an alternative to BIP-361.
