Toss to offer prepaid cards to foreign students to support payments before opening bank accounts
Viva Republica, operator of Toss, will offer prepaid cards to foreign students who face difficulties using financial services before opening bank accounts in South Korea. Toss said on Aug. 27 it will provide the cards to newly enrolled foreign students through international offices at 15 universities nationwide. The cards can be topped up without a domestic bank account, including with cash at CU convenience stores, and used for offline and online payments.

KT to offer integrated finance and telecom services for Mongolians entering South Korea
KT said it will provide integrated finance and telecommunications services for foreigners entering South Korea through a partnership with Mongolia\'s Trade and Development Bank and Woori Bank. The three parties signed a memorandum of understanding in Seoul on Tuesday. KT and Woori Bank plan a package combining bank account opening and mobile plans for Mongolians, including a 5G welcome plan, international calling benefits and other living perks.

Upbit adds mobile resident registration ID for user verification
Upbit said on Feb. 5 it added the mobile resident registration card as an identity verification option alongside physical ID cards and driver’s licences, including the mobile driver’s licence. It also expanded verification for foreign residents in South Korea to include mobile alien registration cards, mobile permanent resident cards and mobile domestic residence report cards for overseas Koreans. The company said the update was aimed at strengthening KYC and improving convenience.
