U.S. military to spend $73 million to develop room-temperature artificial blood, aims for 2029 deployment

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has launched a programme to develop blood substitutes that can be stored for long periods at room temperature, aiming to ease shortages on the battlefield. The $73 million RAPIID effort seeks longer-lasting plasma, platelets and red blood cell substitutes and targets field deployment in 2029. Candidate technologies will be tested in parallel, moving from large-animal work to human trials under University of Colorado Anschutz oversight.

Meta blocks TikTok ads in seven countries including U.S., Japan

Meta has blocked TikTok-related advertising on its platforms in seven countries including the United States and Japan, saying it has no obligation to run ads that draw people away from its apps. The ban covers ByteDance ads and paid marketing, and also third-party campaigns that link to ByteDance services such as TikTok. The move comes as competition intensifies, while regulators and U.S. states press platforms to strengthen protections for minors.

U.S. crypto industry shifts strategy after Clarity Act fails, targets Senate elections

The U.S. cryptocurrency industry is shifting its focus from persuading lawmakers to intervening in elections after Senate legislation stalled. Coinbase-founded advocacy group Stand With Crypto released its first list of endorsed Senate candidates, backing Republicans in Ohio and Iowa and Democrats in New Hampshire. It said endorsements are based on candidates’ crypto policies, not party. Fairshake PAC launched a $30 million campaign targeting Sherrod Brown as overall crypto political spending nears $200 million.
