AI power shift begins, from models to semiconductors, from GPU buying to chip design

The centre of gravity in the AI race is shifting from model development to securing semiconductors, Zero2Launch venture partner Alvin Foo (푸) wrote on X. He said Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Meta are pouring billions of dollars into in-house AI chips because custom designs can cut AI infrastructure costs by 30 to 40 percent versus buying GPUs. As inference workloads rise, Foo said winners will control the full stack, from chips and data centres to cloud infrastructure and enterprise workflows.
