AI power shift begins, from models to semiconductors, from GPU buying to chip design
The centre of gravity in the AI race is shifting from model development to securing semiconductors, Zero2Launch venture partner Alvin Foo (푸) wrote on X. He said Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Meta are pouring billions of dollars into in-house AI chips because custom designs can cut AI infrastructure costs by 30 to 40 percent versus buying GPUs. As inference workloads rise, Foo said winners will control the full stack, from chips and data centres to cloud infrastructure and enterprise workflows.

Twelve Labs raises $100 million in additional funding, expands AWS alliance
Video-understanding AI foundation model developer Twelve Labs said on Tuesday it raised $100 million in Series B funding to pursue general intelligence beyond basic video understanding. The round was co-led by NEA and Naver Ventures, with participation from Amazon, Radical Ventures, Korea Investment Partners, Index Ventures, Kadriyu Capital and Red Bull Ventures. Twelve Labs said its total funding has surpassed $207 million and it will deepen cooperation with Amazon Web Services.

AWS signs series of major chip deals as Pinterest expands use of Amazon chips
Pinterest has signed an agreement to spend $4 billion on Amazon Web Services infrastructure through 2031, The Information reported. The deal is Pinterest\'s largest infrastructure contract to date. Under the agreement, Pinterest will use AWS Trainium chips for AI workloads and expand its use of Amazon\'s Graviton CPUs, which currently handle about one-third of its infrastructure. Pinterest plans to run large language and vision-language models for visual search.
