Pinterest has signed a contract to spend $4 billion on Amazon Web Services infrastructure through 2031, The Information reported on June 4.

It is Pinterest's largest infrastructure contract to date.

Under the deal, Pinterest will use AWS Trainium chips for AI workloads and expand its use of Amazon's Graviton CPU chips, the report said. Graviton currently accounts for one-third of Pinterest's overall infrastructure.

The agreement calls for Pinterest to use Trainium chips to run large language models and vision-language models that power its visual search engine.

Pinterest has been an AWS customer since 2010 and has used its services under long-term contracts. In 2021, it said it would invest $2.9 billion in AWS infrastructure under terms that did not specify a period. It is not clear whether the latest deal means higher annual spending.

AWS has signed a series of chip-usage agreements worth several billion dollars in recent months, including deals with Snowflake and Meta that include Graviton chips.
