Shapes raises $8 million seed funding for group chat app where AI characters and people coexist
Shapes, a group chat app where people and AI characters converse together, has exited stealth mode and disclosed an $8 million seed funding round, TechCrunch reported on April 29. Lightspeed led the round, with participation from AI Capital Partners, AI Grant and individual investors. Founded in 2022, the company has more than 400,000 monthly active users. It positions the product as a way to reduce so-called AI psychosis by bringing AI into everyday group conversations.

KAIST to offer hands-on future tech experiences at Korea Science and Technology Festival
KAIST will take part in the 2026 Korea Science and Technology Festival in April and run interactive exhibition halls, it said on Thursday. The event will be held in two parts: in Daejeon from April 17 to 19 and in the Gyeonggi area from April 24 to 26. KAIST will exhibit at Daejeon Convention Center and KINTEX, showcasing robots, space technology, AI semiconductors and daily-life AI demonstrations.

Meta blocks teen access to AI characters until new version launch
Meta will block teenagers from accessing its AI characters across all apps until a new version is released, TechCrunch reported on Thursday. The move is aimed at strengthening protections for minors amid controversy over teen safety. The decision also coincides with a lawsuit filed against Meta in New Mexico. Meta plans to temporarily suspend existing AI character features and add stronger safeguards and parental controls in the new version.
