OpenAI fires three safety team researchers over alleged leak of confidential information

OpenAI fired three researchers on its safety team over allegations they provided confidential company information to an external AI safety organisation, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. OpenAI told some staff it had dismissed the researchers, the report said. A company spokesperson said OpenAI parted ways with three people who violated policies on accessing and handling sensitive information. OpenAI has recently suffered a string of security incidents.

AWS releases open-source \'Strands Decider 2B\' decision-making model

Amazon Web Services has released an open-source lightweight decision-making model, Strands Decider 2B, for agentic AI development. The model does not generate text, instead selecting from predefined options to reduce token consumption and response delays. It is optimized for local deployment and rapid experimentation on laptops or public clouds. AWS is pursuing hybrid agents in which the decision model selects options and an LLM handles complex reasoning.

UK MI5 issues public warning on China\'s CGTRI over AI, cyber research

Britain\'s domestic security service MI5 warned UK universities and researchers to immediately review cooperation linked to the China General Technology Research Institute (CGTRI), saying it funds research to strengthen the intelligence capabilities of China\'s Ministry of State Security (MSS). MI5 said more than 100 UK or UK-linked researchers joined CGTRI-funded projects spanning AI, cybersecurity and covert communications. China denied the allegations and called MI5\'s claims fabricated.
