Bank of Korea holds policy rate for fifth straight meeting

The Bank of Korea's Monetary Policy Board on Jan. 15 holds the benchmark interest rate steady at 2.50 percent at the year's first meeting on monetary policy direction. The decision marks the fifth consecutive meeting at which the central bank leaves rates unchanged, extending a streak that has continued since July last year.

Kurly's 'Charieonae' private-label ready meals top 1 million in cumulative sales

Kurly said on Jan. 15 that cumulative sales of its private-label home meal replacement brand Charieonae exceeded 1 million units nine months after launch. The company introduced the brand in April last year and expanded the lineup from 3 product categories to 24, an about eightfold increase. Its top-selling item was the Ham-Filled Songtan-style Budae Jjigae. Kurly said it uses domestic ingredients across the range and plans to expand to about 70 items this year.

K Bank to support digital asset-based remittance and payment services between South Korea and UAE

K Bank plans to work with a UAE digital asset firm and a South Korean blockchain company to develop digital asset-based cross-border remittance and payment services between South Korea and the UAE. The partners will begin a proof of concept for stablecoin transfers between the won and the dirham. They will also cooperate on custody, conversion and settlement technologies and aim to create a compliance-focused model meeting South Korean and UAE rules.
