[DigitalToday reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] Five new features not yet reflected in Apple’s iOS 27 beta could be added around the official release, it has been suggested.

The IT outlet 9to5Mac reported on July 30 that expanded Siri links to external AI, a revamp of the Health app, support for external AI for image and text generation, camera app customisation and split-screen multitasking for iPhone Ultra were being cited as features not yet confirmed in the beta.

iOS 27 is currently in beta testing and is scheduled to be rolled out to all users this autumn. The functions mentioned could be included immediately in the official iOS 27.0 release or pushed to a subsequent update such as iOS 27.1.

The first change drawing attention is how Siri links to AI. iOS 27 already includes an interface for switching AI sources, but the actual choices are limited to Siri and ChatGPT. Mark Gurman pointed out that while an interface to switch AI sources exists in iOS 27, ChatGPT is currently the only alternative to Siri. That suggests Apple has laid the groundwork to add more external AI, but service expansion has not yet happened.

It has also been suggested that external AI models could be added for image and text generation. iOS 27 currently does not provide options such as Anthropic’s Claude or Google’s Gemini in this area. The report cited the possibility that related functions could arrive when Siri expands support for external assistants. The key point is that, similar to the lack of new AI options in the Siri interface, iOS 27 still does not offer external AI choices to run image and text generation.

A revamp of the Health app is also an unresolved variable. Mark Gurman mentioned that these updates are expected to arrive in future iOS 27 updates and were not included in the Worldwide Developers Conference announcements. With Health app changes missing from the beta and initial announcements, the likelihood increases that Apple could apply them separately at another time. Specific details of the functions were not additionally confirmed in this article.

The camera app could also see more work. In iOS 27, the camera app gained a new Siri mode, but there is still no sign of a feature allowing users to adjust the interface the way they want. That means the level of customisation previously mentioned by Mark Gurman has not been applied in the current state. The feature has been suggested as possibly being introduced around the time the iPhone 18 Pro is unveiled.

A feature linked to hardware changes is support for foldables. Mark Gurman said iOS 27 would include new features for a next foldable device, and iPhone Ultra has been cited as the device name. In iOS 27, several Apple apps have started supporting landscape mode, which is interpreted as preparation with a foldable device with a wider screen in mind. Apple is also reported to be planning to enable split-screen multitasking that places apps side by side when the iPhone Ultra launches.

Ultimately, the points to watch in iOS 27 lie in follow-on cards that have not yet been revealed, rather than in features shown in the beta. How far Apple expands external AI links, when it adds revamps to core apps such as Health and Camera, and which products it pairs foldable-related functions with remain variables that will determine iOS 27’s completeness.
