Kosdaq lags as KOSPI nears 8,000; can promotion-relegation system offer a way out?
KOSPI has neared the 8,000 level amid a record rally, but Kosdaq has remained relatively weak as gains concentrate in large blue chips, widening the returns gap between the two markets. Policymakers and the Korea Exchange are reviewing a three-tier segment system for Kosdaq, with promotion and relegation based on company size, results and governance. The exchange said details and timing have not been set.

The Wall Street Journal reported engineers at Ramp use gaming headsets to speak to AI, while Gusto co-founder Edward Kim encourages staff to try dictation tools. Etiquette in shared offices is becoming more important. Competition is intensifying among AI dictation apps, and Google has added an AI dictation feature, Rambler, to Gboard.

K battery makers see end of chasm tunnel, profitability within reach in Q2
South Korea's three major battery makers posted weak first-quarter results. LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI swung to operating losses, and SK On is also expected to remain in the red. Brokerages see the first quarter as a cyclical trough and expect a shift to profitability from the second quarter as energy storage system sales ramp up and electric-vehicle demand recovers. Key variables include the pace of ESS revenue recognition and normalization of North American production.
