Samsung donated 3 billion won to comfort residents in areas hit by torrential rains, including Geoje and Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang and Andong and Uiseong in North Gyeongsang, and to support recovery, it said on Aug. 28.

Nine affiliates took part in the donation: Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDS, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance and Samsung Heavy Industries. Samsung Heavy Industries joined the donation for the local community despite suffering some damage from the heavy rain.

Separately from the donation, Samsung will provide emergency relief supplies and temporary housing for affected residents. It plans to provide 1,000 emergency relief kits made through support for the Korean Red Cross, as well as 300 disaster relief shelters that are tent-type mobile temporary housing units. The relief supplies consist of daily necessities such as blankets, tracksuits, towels and toiletries. Samsung has deposited donations with the Korean Red Cross every year since 2005 to equip disaster relief gear and emergency aid supplies.

Samsung Card will offer financial support for customers affected by the torrential rains. It will defer credit card payment bills charged from August to October for up to 6 months, and allow the scheduled payment amount to be paid in installments for up to 6 months without interest. It will cut interest on card loans by up to 30 percent, and decided to extend again the maturities for customers whose long-term card loans mature by the end of October.

Samsung has also joined social support efforts during large-scale disasters at home and abroad. During nationwide heavy rains in July 2025, it donated 3 billion won. In March that year, it also donated 3 billion won in relief funds and 1 billion won worth of home appliances during wildfires in North Gyeongsang, South Gyeongsang and Ulsan. In 2023, it provided 3 billion won for flood damage in Chungcheong and Gyeongsang, and 3 billion won for recovery from wildfire damage in Gangwon, South Chungcheong, North Gyeongsang and South Jeolla. Since 1995, Samsung's cumulative donations to help overcome domestic disasters, including this support, have exceeded 130 billion won.

Samsung has continued support for overseas disasters as well. During the Los Angeles wildfires in the United States in 2025, it donated electronics worth $1 million, including home appliances, tablets and PCs. During the earthquake in Turkey in 2023, it provided emergency support totaling $3 million, including relief funds and supplies.
