Toss and Hana Bank launch season 2 of the 'Hana Pedometer Savings' product that offers preferential interest rates based on step counts, Toss said on Aug. 28. The sales cap for season 2 is expanded to 20,000 accounts after season 1, launched last month, sold out its 10,000 accounts in 13 days.
Hana Pedometer Savings links Hana Bank's savings product with Toss's pedometer service and applies step counts as a condition for preferential interest rates. Season 1, launched on July 15, used up its 10,000-account sales limit in 13 days.
Season 2 keeps the same product structure and benefits while increasing the sales limit from 10,000 accounts to 20,000 accounts.
The product is a flexible deposit savings plan with a 100-day maturity. Individuals and sole proprietors aged 19 and older can subscribe with one account per person. An account can be opened with 0 won at initial sign-up, and customers can deposit freely from 1,000 won a day up to 30,000 won. Season 1 subscribers cannot sign up again for season 2.
The interest rate is up to 4.5 percent, combining a base annual rate of 1.0 percent and a preferential rate of up to 3.5 percentage points.
The preferential interest rate based on step counts applies based on the cumulative number of steps recorded by the Toss pedometer for 61 days, from the date the savings plan is opened through the 60th day. Customers can receive a 1.0 percentage point annual bonus for at least 15,000 cumulative steps, 1.5 percentage points for at least 300,000 steps, and 2.0 percentage points for at least 600,000 steps.
An additional preferential rate applies of 1.0 percentage point a year for first-time customers who have not held Hana Bank savings deposits or installments in the year before the subscription date, and 0.5 percentage points a year for customers who agree to all marketing for Hana Bank products and services. The Housing Subscription Comprehensive Savings account is excluded from the determination of whether a customer holds savings deposits or installments.
Customers who open the savings plan through the Toss app will also receive up to 5,000 won in Toss points.
A Toss official said, "Hana Pedometer Savings is a product that links the habit of walking every day with savings benefits," adding, "We hope more users can connect steps in their daily lives to interest-rate benefits."
