[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Physical AI robotics firm XYZ said on Tuesday a joint project with GTGO, which operates the GOPIZZA dining brand, was selected for Global TIPS.

The project is part of the Technology Development (R&D) Programme Linked to Investment and Financing, led by the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs as a specialised institution. GTGO is the lead R&D organisation and XYZ is a joint R&D participant.

The project focuses on combining GTGO’s dining operations and food manufacturing capabilities with XYZ’s robots and physical AI technology to develop a low-labor, unmanned dining store operating model and expand it to global markets.

The two companies will combine GTGO’s smart oven, GOVEN, and dining operations technology with XYZ’s robot barista solution, Barisbrew, and its dual-arm robot, DEUX. They will add robot behavioral intelligence, digital twins and an integrated operations system to build an intelligent store operating framework that connects ordering, cooking, transfer, packing and delivery.

XYZ said the key is to move beyond individual automated equipment and convert the entire dining store into a single physical AI system. It said the focus is on shifting unstructured tasks that required human intervention to physical AI.

Hwang Sung-jae (황성재), CEO of XYZ, said, “The real value of physical AI is not a laboratory demo but replacing people’s work in the field and generating economic results.” He said, “Through this project, DEUX will perform unstructured tasks in the dining industry such as packing, transfer and delivery, and we will implement a practical retail physical AI model where various equipment collaborates within a single intelligent system.”
