LG Uplus has established a framework allowing global telecom operators to assess the level of autonomous operation in fixed subscriber networks using the same criteria.
LG Uplus said on Tuesday it led the establishment of an autonomous network (AN) level assessment chart for the fixed subscriber network fault management area at the global telecom industry body TM Forum.
A fixed subscriber network is the network area connected to services used by customers, such as internet, IPTV and Wi-Fi. Telecom operators have raised automation levels in subscriber networks to prevent faults and shorten recovery times, but there has been no official standard to objectively evaluate such capabilities.
To address this, LG Uplus proposed developing an AN level assessment chart for subscriber network fault management to TM Forum and led the drafting work. TM Forum is a global body in which telecom operators, equipment makers and others cooperate to develop telecom industry standards and evaluation systems.
The assessment chart was approved through TM Forum's official procedures. With the chart established, telecom operators can diagnose and compare the autonomy level of subscriber networks using the same criteria. They can use the evaluation results to identify areas needing improvement and to set autonomous network strategies.
LG Uplus expects equipment makers will also be able to set directions for developing related solutions to match the autonomy level required by telecom operators.
