Apple is changing how iPhone built-in apps are used in iOS 27, led by a dedicated Siri app, one-touch Messages and natural-language input in Calendar.

IT outlet NineToFiveMac reported on Aug. 24 that the update is less about the number of new features than about weaving Apple Intelligence into the overall built-in app experience.

The most noticeable change is a dedicated Siri app. Siri in iOS 27 is redesigned from the ground up for the AI era and comes preinstalled as a default app on the iPhone home screen. Apple explained that the Siri app is a space where users can comfortably ask any question and is particularly suited to chatbot-style conversations.

The Messages app includes a "one-tap suggestions" feature. It uses Apple Intelligence but makes it possible to handle requests at once without a separate AI chatbot. A key feature is that users do not need to enter complex requests themselves.

The Calendar app adds "Smart Event Details". The feature automatically recognises and applies key information when a schedule is entered in natural language. Apple explained that Apple Intelligence automatically detects and fills in the title, time, location and invitees. As a result, users can create an event by writing a single-line schedule without entering each item separately. A key feature is that it reduces input steps in a frequently used built-in app such as Calendar.

These iOS 27 changes extend across multiple apps including Messages, Notes, Apple Wallet and CarPlay, but the areas with the biggest impact in day-to-day use narrow to Siri, Messages and Calendar. The Siri app puts a chatbot-style interface front and centre, while Messages and Calendar chose a structure in which AI works in the background. Even with features based on the same Apple Intelligence, Apple took different approaches by app.

In this trend, iOS 27 is focusing on placing AI features within the iPhone's default usage flow rather than as separate experimental functions. A point to watch is that it is designed so users feel the change directly in the apps they use most, such as the home screen, Messages and schedule management, rather than typing long AI commands or seeking out new services.
