LS ITC, the IT services unit of LS Electric, has joined hands with Motif Technologies, which has the capability to develop its own AI models. LS ITC said on Monday it signed a memorandum of understanding with Motif Technologies on applying customised AI to manufacturing sites.
The agreement is aimed at combining LS ITC's know-how in building and operating operating technology, or OT, that controls information technology and equipment at manufacturing sites with Motif Technologies' technology. Motif Technologies was recently recognised for its technology in an evaluation of a government national flagship AI project development programme. Based on this, the two companies plan to identify AI tasks that can be applied to actual manufacturing processes and verify their feasibility for on-site deployment.
The two companies will jointly pursue the identification of generative AI application tasks in manufacturing, step-by-step verification of how well AI models fit on-site needs and their effectiveness, and a review of the potential for follow-up cooperation based on the verification results. They aim to derive AI utilisation plans optimised for actual manufacturing sites.
LS Group is actively pushing an organisation-wide AI transformation. In office operations, it introduced the group's common AI platform, LS GPT, to improve work efficiency. In manufacturing and production sites, it has achieved productivity improvements through AI-based defect inspection and equipment automation at LS Cable & System and LS Electric, and AI process optimisation at LS MnM's Onsan smelter, the company said.
Jo Ui-je (조의제), CEO of LS ITC, said, "At a time when practical capabilities that connect AI technology's competitiveness to solving problems at industrial sites and improving productivity are as important as the technology itself." He added, "Through this cooperation, we will verify the practicality of AI models specialised for LS Group's manufacturing sites and lay a technological foundation, contributing to upgrading the group's manufacturing processes."
