[DigitalToday reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] The robot dog market in 2026 is splitting clearly by use, from education and pet models to industrial units. Prices also range widely, from $319 (about 440,000 won) to $100,000 (about 137.5 million won), making it hard to compare products solely by price or appearance.

On Aug. 21 (local time), blockchain media outlet Cryptopolitan compared robot dogs by dividing them into three tiers: pet, development and industrial. It compared major products by actual selling prices, development environments and maintenance conditions.

The key point is that this is a completely different market depending on purpose, not appearance. General consumers value easy installation and interaction. Developers and research teams focus on coding and sensor expandability. Industrial sites prioritize payload, autonomous driving and long operating capability.

The cheapest category is pet and education models. Petoi's Bittle X starts at $319 and supports block coding, Python, C++, ROS and more. Continuous walking time is about 1 hour, but it can drop to under 30 minutes if it runs continuously.

In the same bracket, Keyi Tech's Loona was sold at a discounted price of $499. It moves on wheels rather than four legs and has a camera, microphone, touch sensor and a 2.4-inch LCD. It offers GPT-4o-based voice conversation and focuses on a family pet robot rather than development.

Sony's Aibo ERS-1000 jumps to $3,199.99. Its features, including memory and learning and "My Aibo", are linked to a cloud service. Sony ended sales in Japan in June but continues sales in the United States, and said it will keep providing parts, repairs and cloud support for existing users.

In the development market, software accessibility matters more than price. Unitree's Go2 Air starts at $1,600, the Pro at $2,800 and the X at $4,500. However, the full SDK2 and development environments based on Python and ROS2 are provided only in the EDU version.

DeepRobotics' Lite3 costs $2,890 for the base model, rising to $18,270 for the lidar version. It supports SDKs and APIs based on C++, Python, and ROS1 and ROS2, making it more suitable for research and development purposes.

Prices jump sharply from the industrial tier. Unitree's Aliengo is priced at around $50,000, and benchmark prices of $100,000 were presented for the B2, B2-W and A2. The B2 supports payloads of more than 40 kg while walking, and the B2-W combines wheels and legs to emphasize long-distance movement. The A2 applies dual hot-swappable batteries and focuses on long operation.

Boston Dynamics' Spot is sold through a business-to-business sales model without a public price. Actual deployment costs vary depending on onboard equipment, software and the support system. It is designed around repeated inspections and autonomous mission execution, and has support systems including repair infrastructure, training and warranties.

In buying decisions, factors other than price also stood out. As robot dog batteries degrade, usable time shortens over time, and wear accumulates in joints and drive parts. Warranty periods also vary widely by manufacturer. Lite3 joint warranties are 3 to 6 months in some versions, while Go2 Air is 6 months and the Pro, X and EDU are 12 months. Repair systems also differ by product. Petoi provides replacement parts and repair guides, while Unitree handles after-sales support directly, but international shipping, customs clearance and repair logistics can be a burden.

Some products also depend on online services or subscription cloud services for key functions, so whether manufacturers provide long-term support can affect the actual period of use.

In the end, the first thing to consider when choosing a robot dog is not price but what it will be used for. Bittle X can be an option for an introduction to coding, Loona and Aibo for pet purposes, Go2 and Lite3 for research and development, and Aliengo, the B2 and A2, and Spot for industrial sites.
