Qualcomm has hired an external executive to strengthen its mobile business. Qualcomm said on Thursday it appointed Sergio Buniac (세르지오 부니악) as executive vice president of Qualcomm Technologies and head of the Mobile, Compute and Personal AI Group. Buniac will officially take up the post on Sept. 2 and oversee the company’s smartphones, personal computing, smart wearables, XR and next-generation AI device businesses.
Before joining Qualcomm, Buniac worked at Motorola for more than 30 years, providing regional and global leadership in areas including strategy, products, sales, marketing, operations and supply chains. From 2018, he led the overall business as president of Motorola Devices.
CEO Amon said, "Executive Vice President Sergio Buniac is a proven business leader with more than 30 years of experience in the mobile industry." He added, "He not only drives innovation and grows businesses, but also successfully led major turning points in the industry."
Amon added, "Executive Vice President Sergio Buniac has expertise in successfully building a global consumer device business across the entire process, from product design to commercialization." He added, "As we enter the era of agentic AI, we expect he will play an important role in further expanding experiences based on the Snapdragon platform."
