Coocon posted year-on-year growth in both revenue and operating profit in the second quarter. In the second half, it will move to expand new businesses such as artificial intelligence data, global payments and stablecoins.
Coocon said on Aug. 21 it held a regular IR event for the second quarter of 2026 at its headquarters in Yeongdeungpo district, Seoul, on Aug. 20 and presented its second-quarter performance, key business updates and second-half strategy.
On a separate basis, second-quarter revenue came to 17.96 billion won and operating profit was 4.96 billion won. That was up 7.3 percent and 6.3 percent, respectively, from a year earlier. From the previous quarter, revenue rose 12.2 percent and operating profit gained 10.9 percent.
By segment, the data business posted revenue of 8.65 billion won and operating profit of 2.72 billion won. The operating margin was 31.5 percent. Higher revenue from expanding new customers for financial MyData affected results.
Revenue from the payment business was 9.31 billion won and operating profit was 2.23 billion won. Profitability improved on new large payment gateway customers, higher transaction volume, big-tech COATM volume, and wider sales of products with high cost efficiency.
It is also expanding new businesses. Coocon launched an MCP (Model Context Protocol)-based data API in the second quarter and linked global mobile payment services. It also completed a proof of concept related to stablecoins.
In its AI data business, it opened an MCP-based data API product catalogue and launched about 30 products in the second quarter. In the second half, it plans to expand this to about 100 products and convert its full product lineup to MCP-based APIs by 2027. It is also pushing to be designated as a specialised personal information management institution to respond to an expanded scope for the right to request transmission of personal information.
In global payments, it launched 7 mobile payment services through partnerships with UnionPay, WeChat Pay, Alipay, PayPay, Indonesia's QRIS and Liquid Group. It is partnered with about 50 global payment partners in 20 countries and plans to expand merchants to hospitals and large franchises in the second half.
In its stablecoin business, it completed a proof of concept for the full process from USDC and USDT top-ups to QR payments, ATM withdrawals and settlement, in connection with domestic and overseas digital asset operators. In the won stablecoin area, it is working to form a consortium for financial institutions.
To expand overseas business, it also plans to set up a local subsidiary in Singapore within the year. Coocon plans to pursue a Singapore MPI (Major Payment Institution) licence by the end of 2027 and expand its business into ecommerce sales proceeds settlement, business-to-business funds settlement and a stablecoin platform.
It is also expanding shareholder returns. Coocon signed a 5.0 billion won treasury share acquisition trust contract on Aug. 5. The company plans to use 20 to 30 percent of the previous year's operating profit for shareholder returns such as dividends and share buybacks.
Coocon CEO Jong-hyun Kim (김종현) said, "We continued balanced growth in both the data and payment segments in the second quarter," adding, "In the second half, we will make future growth engines concrete by expanding the MCP-based data API business and strengthening global payment infrastructure."
