AI coding tool Cursor is launching its own source code hosting platform, Origin, expanding its AI development environment, Techzine reported on Aug. 18 (local time).
Origin rebuilds functions offered by GitHub and GitLab, including repositories, pull requests, and code search and browsing, around AI agents.
It is available as an early beta for paid subscribers.
Users can create repositories in the “Codebase” tab and clone code via the command line or upload it to Origin. Through Origin, Cursor is managing not only an AI code editor but also the infrastructure where project source code is stored, Techzine said.
Cursor provides both an agent that runs on a developer’s PC and an agent that operates in a cloud environment. The cloud agent can carry out long-running programming tasks even when the developer’s computer is turned off.
It also supports integration with GitHub. Developers can bring only the repositories they need to Origin and can disconnect at any time.
Origin is still in an early beta stage and is not a service that fully replaces GitHub or GitLab. Cursor plans to add features specialised for AI agents in the future.
