A report that private equity firm Silver Lake is in talks to acquire Workday sent the software company's shares up more than 25 percent, and trading was briefly halted late in the session, CNBC reported on Aug. 13.

Workday and Silver Lake did not immediately respond to questions.

Software companies such as Workday have come under heavy pressure in recent months over concerns that AI tools could upend existing business models.

Workday reappointed co-founder Anil Busse (아닐 부스리) as chief executive officer in March. Busse has held several leadership roles at the company, including CEO and co-CEO.

Analyst Brent Thill said Anil Busse and Silver Lake's Egon Durban (이건 더반) know each other well through multiple connections, and that the deal could be completed. He said it also aligns with the recent hit to the software sector.
