[DigitalToday reporter Won-sun Lee] Apple included internal identifiers for six unreleased iPhone models in iOS 27 beta 5 code. The code also raised the possibility that the iPhone 18 Pro could get three camera upgrades, including a variable-aperture main camera, a wider-aperture telephoto camera and Pro-only software features.

NineToFiveMac reported on Aug. 11 that the beta 5 code points to the iPhone 18 lineup, the iPhone Air 2 and a foldable iPhone Ultra, which are expected to be released within the next 6 to 8 months. Cross-checking with previously leaked information, V62 corresponds to the iPhone Air 2, V63 to the iPhone 18 Pro, V64 to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, V67 to the iPhone 18, V68 to the iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold, and V69 to the iPhone 18e.

Among them, the reported camera upgrades are worth watching. NineToFiveMac said the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera changes are expected to span both hardware and software.

The most notable change is a variable aperture for the main camera. The feature has been discussed for years, but how Apple will reflect it in actual shooting remains unknown. Depending on how it is implemented, it could allow finer control of focus and depth in each photo, and could also improve portrait mode, low-light shooting and responsiveness by scene.

The telephoto camera is expected to use a wider aperture. That could improve low-light performance, which is cited as a current weakness.

The possibility of additional software features for Pro models was also raised. Details are not yet known, but there is a view that Pro-only features could be added this year as Apple added a dual capture feature only to its latest iPhones last year.

The camera control button is also expected to be revamped this year. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said the iPhone 18 Pro could show the biggest jump in camera hardware in recent years. In the previous model, the iPhone 17, the Center Stage front camera was cited as a key change, while the iPhone 17 Pro was noted for a greatly improved telephoto lens.

The key point is that the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera changes may not be limited to a single sensor or lens. With the possibility raised of changes spanning the main camera, telephoto camera, software features and control button, attention is focusing on whether the overall camera experience will change.
