Hanwha Solutions' Wire & Cable division said on Monday it will begin commercialising its high-density polyethylene-based power cable jacket material CHBA-8241RC after completing customer verification. The material applies 50 percent post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) feedstock, it said.
CHBA-8241RC is an eco-friendly composite material developed in-house by Hanwha Solutions. It emits about 34 percent less carbon per kilogram than existing products. The company said its electrical characteristics remain at the same level as existing products, enabling production of eco-friendly cables without performance degradation.
Hanwha Solutions completed development and pilot production in 2025. It completed cable makers' production tests and quality verification in the first half of this year. With the commercialisation, it said it has built a portfolio spanning from extra-high-voltage insulation materials to eco-friendly cable sheath materials.
The company obtained GRS and ISCC PLUS, global eco-friendly certifications, for recycled polyethylene (rPE) made from recycled waste plastic. Through cooperation with LG Display and Kolmar Korea Holdings, among others, it has expanded the scope of rPE applications to include packaging for electronic products, cosmetic containers and industrial recycled packaging bags.

He added, "Through eco-friendly cable materials based on recycled feedstock, we will actively support customers' sustainable power cable production and establish ourselves as a trusted material partner in the global power infrastructure market."
