Korea Artificial Intelligence and Software Industry Association (KOSA) and the Korea Electrical Manufacturers Association (KOEMA) said on Aug. 9 they signed a memorandum of understanding to expand AX in the electrical industry and foster industrial AI talent.

The agreement was pushed to link KOSA's network of AI supplier companies and its talent-training capabilities with KOEMA's network of member companies and product-by-product consultative bodies. The two organisations aim to identify AI demand at electrical industry sites and build an AX ecosystem centred on industrial sites.

They agreed to cooperate on establishing a system to train, supply and use AI talent based on demand at industrial sites. They will also support the spread of AX transformation, including building AI factories in the electrical industry, and provide support for linking, matching and commercialising projects between AI suppliers and electrical manufacturing companies. They will jointly identify specialised AI use models and build a foundation for using electrical manufacturing data.

They also agreed to identify manufacturing AX demand using product-by-product consultative bodies and to pursue joint projects. They will work together to secure standardisation and interoperability related to industrial AI and to advance testing, certification and quality management systems. The two sides also agreed to jointly identify tasks to improve laws and systems to vitalise manufacturing AX and to create a policy environment.

They plan to identify and spread best practices. They also plan to support the application of next-generation technologies such as physical AI and on-device AI at industrial sites to raise productivity and quality competitiveness of electrical manufacturing companies.

Seong-il Seo (서성일), executive vice chairman of KOSA, said it is important to connect AI technology and talent suited to manufacturing sites to raise productivity and quality competitiveness in the electrical industry. He said the agreement will serve as an opportunity to actively identify AX demand at electrical industry sites with KOEMA and to create manufacturing innovation results through cooperation with AI suppliers and fostering industrial AI talent.
