KTis said on Thursday it is providing a service called "114 call a taxi" that requests Kakao Taxi on behalf of digitally vulnerable groups such as older people.

If a user calls 02-114 and gives a departure point and destination, an agent requests a taxi through Kakao T and provides the dispatch result. The service can be used by phone without installing a separate app or signing up for membership. It operates on weekdays and weekends from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is available nationwide.

KTis took into account that as taxi-hailing shifts to mobile apps, travel inconvenience has grown for older people who are not accustomed to using smartphones. The service has logged about 150,000 cumulative uses since its launch in April last year.

KTis also uses 02-114 to provide information on nationwide heatwave shelters, clinics and hospitals, and pharmacies, in addition to taxi-hailing.

Kim Sung-geun (김성근), an executive director at KTis' 114 business division, said, "In summer, both travel and health management are a burden for older people." He added, "We will continue to expand the scope of 114's close-to-daily-life guidance so that digital exclusion does not occur."
