Kakao has selected Coupang Eats as the first external service partner for its KakaoTalk artificial intelligence (AI) agent. It plans to soon introduce a service that lets users handle everything at once, from food recommendations to ordering and payment, without leaving the KakaoTalk chat window.
Kakao CEO Jeong Shin-a (정신아) said on Aug. 6 during the company’s 2026 second-quarter earnings conference call, "As the first step in expanding the agent AI ecosystem, we will sign a partnership with Coupang Eats in the food delivery vertical."
Under the cooperation, KakaoTalk’s on-device AI model will analyse the conversation context and preferences accumulated by the user to suggest menu options. Users will be able to complete ordering and payment within the chat room without moving to a separate app. Kakao and Coupang Eats are discussing detailed implementation plans so that the agent AI experience can smoothly lead to actual transactions, and plan to roll out the service in the near term.
Jeong described the integration with Coupang Eats as "a first step toward creating a new usage habit in which AI connects the user’s intent to real actions and transactions, beyond simply adding a food-ordering function to KakaoTalk."
Kakao plans to expand its agent AI ecosystem step by step, starting with food delivery and moving into areas users frequently use in daily life, including commerce, reservations, travel and payments.
