Korea Epson said on Aug. 3 it signed a memorandum of understanding with security solutions company NexPot Solution to expand the anti-counterfeit security label market and develop high value-added label solutions.
The companies plan to combine Epson's SurePress L-6534VW with NexPot Solution's security technology to jointly broaden security label solutions.
The SurePress L-6534VW is a digital label press that uses Epson Digital Varnish ink to create optical effects that change color depending on the viewing angle. It also uses white ink with high opacity for a range of special effects.
NexPot Solution develops and supplies various anti-counterfeiting solutions, including QR code-based authentication. It has supplied security labels made with Epson's SurePress L-6534VW to major companies in South Korea.
With the agreement, the companies plan to expand in the market a new security label solution that combines existing QR-based authentication technology with special printing technologies such as digital varnish. They also plan to provide differentiated, high value-added label solutions to existing customers.
Jun Morofushi (모로후시 준), head of Korea Epson, said security technology is becoming an important factor in protecting brand value as damage caused by counterfeit goods increases. He said the partnership will combine Epson's digital printing technology with NexPot Solution's security technology to provide differentiated value to customers and contribute to expanding the domestic security label market.
