Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) returned to net inflows in July. Still, heavier month-end selling meant they remained in net outflows of $5.3 billion on a cumulative basis since the start of the year.
On Aug. 1 (local time), blockchain media outlet Cointelegraph reported that Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded net inflows of $172.4 million during July.
The net inflows marked a rebound after two straight months of outflows in May and June. Data compiled by SoSoValue showed about $7 billion left over the two months, including $4.5 billion of net outflows in June, the largest monthly outflow this year.
Selling pressure increased again at the end of July. Bitcoin spot ETFs saw net outflows of $265.4 million on July 31 alone, the biggest daily outflow since July 13. They also posted weekly net outflows of $61.53 million in the week ended July 31, snapping a three-week run of net inflows.
The year-to-date trend is weaker. Bitcoin spot ETFs have recorded about $5.3 billion of net outflows so far in 2026. On a monthly basis, only March, April and July saw net inflows, totaling $3.46 billion. Net outflows in January, February, May and June totaled about $8.75 billion.
Even so, cumulative inflows since launch have held up. Cumulative net inflows since launch of Bitcoin spot ETFs were tallied at $51.32 billion. Total net assets stood at $76.29 billion as of the end of July. While fund flows have weakened this year, the overall size of the products remains large.
A gap in flows also emerged compared with other cryptocurrency ETFs. Ethereum spot ETFs recorded net inflows of $365.2 million in July, extending inflows for a fourth straight week. It was the second positive monthly flow this year after $356 million of net inflows in April. Ethereum spot ETFs, however, were still in net outflows of about $1.1 billion on a cumulative basis since the start of the year.
XRP spot ETFs maintained a relatively steady trend. Net inflows in July were $27.3 million, marking the fifth month of net inflows in 2026. Cumulative net inflows since the start of the year stood at about $343 million, placing it among cryptocurrency ETFs with relatively strong flows this year.
Bitcoin spot ETFs switched to net inflows in July, breaking two straight months of outflows. But given the large month-end pullout and cumulative net outflows since the start of the year, it is hard to say investor sentiment has clearly recovered. By contrast, Ethereum and XRP spot ETFs continued to see relatively stable inflows, making differences in demand by asset more pronounced in the cryptocurrency ETF market.
