Starknet released a post-incident report after its second network outage in 2025, Cointelegraph reported on Jan. 10.

The report said the cause of the mainnet downtime was a mismatch between the block execution layer and the transaction validation layer. As the validation layer detected errors, incorrect transactions were not written to the ledger and network activity was rolled back for 18 minutes. This was a necessary step to maintain blockchain stability, but it caused inconvenience for users. Starknet plans to strengthen testing and code audits to prevent similar problems.

Cointelegraph said the outage refocused attention on the complexity of the multi-layer technology stacks used by the latest blockchain networks.

Starknet suffered two major outages in 2025. In September, the network stopped for more than 5 hours after the Grinta protocol upgrade, and a sequencer bug required two blockchain reorganisations. In the process, 1 hour of network activity was rolled back and users had to resubmit transactions.
