SK Hynix also rose close to its daily limit, lifting the total market value of the main board market back above 5,000 trillion won after four sessions.
As of 10:22 a.m. on July 31, Samsung Electronics' market capitalisation was tallied at $1.188 trillion, according to the financial investment industry.
Samsung Electronics' market value had slipped below $1 trillion earlier this week, but climbed back above the level on a sharp rebound in semiconductor shares. Its market-cap ranking among major global companies rose 2 notches from the previous session to 12th.
SK Hynix's market capitalisation was tallied at $846.9 billion. Its global market-cap ranking climbed 2 notches to 18th.
According to the Korea Exchange, at the same time Samsung Electronics was trading at 256,000 won, up 23.67 percent from the previous session, while SK Hynix was up 27.61 percent at 1,687,000 won.
With the top 2 stocks by market capitalisation in South Korea surging, the KOSPI also rose 17.01 percent to 6,545.15.
The total market capitalisation of the main board market was tallied at 5,397.6 trillion won, up 786.1 trillion won from the previous session. It was the first time in four sessions that the KOSPI market value exceeded 5,000 trillion won.
The KOSPI market value held around 5,534 trillion won early in the week, but fell as share prices plunged, led by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. It dropped to 4,933 trillion won on July 28, 4,669 trillion won on July 29 and 4,611 trillion won on July 30.
With Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix surging together on the day, market value that had shrunk for three days recovered quickly.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix accounted for 51.22 percent of total KOSPI market capitalisation. The concentration effect, in which moves in the 2 large semiconductor stocks sway the direction of the entire domestic market, was highlighted again.
