U.S. President Donald Trump said he has no plan to pardon Sam Bankman-Fried, the co-founder and CEO of bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, Trump said he is excluding Bankman-Fried from pardon candidates, along with Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro, former Senator Bob Menendez and music producer Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Bankman-Fried was convicted in 2023 under the Biden administration on charges of misappropriating billions of dollars in customer assets and is serving a 25-year sentence. He is still trying to appeal and has indirectly sought a pardon through activity on his X account. He also praised Trump in December for pardoning a former Honduran president.

Bankman-Fried supported Biden during the 2020 presidential election and donated $5.2 million to help defeat Trump. Analysts say that background is not unrelated.

In the interview, Trump said, "I supported crypto, and because of that I got a lot of votes. I like crypto more and more." But he made a clear distinction in the case of Bankman-Fried, underscoring that political support for crypto and questions of responsibility are separate.
