Ripple chief technology officer emeritus David Schwartz (데이비드 슈워츠) held a light-hearted exchange with AI chatbot Grok about casting a biopic about himself, again mentioning the possibility of a film adaptation. There has been no indication so far that any actual production is being pursued.

On July 27 local time, blockchain media outlet U.Today reported that Schwartz asked Grok, "If a biopic about my life were made, who would be good to play me?"

Grok suggested the fictional film title "The Ripple Wizard" and named Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in the "Lord of the Rings" series, as a casting candidate. It linked Schwartz's bearded appearance and technical image, saying he gives off "the vibe of a wise wizard." It likened the birth of the XRP Ledger (XRPL) to "the magic of decentralised finance."

The film parody continued. Grok offered a line that reworked Gandalf's "You shall not pass" into something like, "You shall not pass without fast, cheap cross-border payments," using humour to describe features of the XRP Ledger. Schwartz replied in a comment: "Personally I wanted Jeff Daniels but he's too old now too," he joked.

The exchange is interpreted as an extension of Schwartz's recently repeated idea of a "Ripple film adaptation." At the top of his social media profile, an AI-written Hollywood-style movie synopsis has already been posted as a cover image, and it is known to satirically depict the years-long legal dispute between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and Ripple.

Grok's fantasy-style retelling of the XRP Ledger's origins is also seen as continuing that tone. Schwartz is one of the core designers of the XRP Ledger, previously served as Ripple's chief technology officer and now holds the title of CTO emeritus. Ripple has adjusted his role so he can focus on network optimisation and core technology development rather than management and operations.

For that reason, some in the industry say the "wise wizard" image suggested by Grok naturally fits his current role, given that Schwartz is seen as a figure symbolising Ripple's technological direction and ecosystem.

Still, the exchange was conducted purely as a public joke, and it has not been confirmed that negotiations or projects are under way for an actual film or documentary. So far, the only confirmed details are Schwartz's public remarks and Grok's responses, and no official film production plan has been announced.
