MoonPay has added the Discover Network as a payment method. Discover is the third U.S. card network supported by MoonPay, after Visa and Mastercard. MoonPay also supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, bank transfers and local payment networks.
According to a recent report by The Block, Discover has long been less active than Visa and Mastercard in cryptocurrency partnerships. Some platforms, including CEX.IO and partners of the BitPay cryptocurrency marketplace, already accept Discover cards, but MoonPay’s announcement means it supports the Discover Network payment rails that process transactions between cardholders and merchants, The Block reported.
With the added support for the Discover Network, eligible cards operating on the Discover Network can be used on MoonPay. Whether cryptocurrency can be purchased with a specific card still depends on the issuing bank’s policy, including what types of transactions the bank allows.
Richard Harrison (리처드 해리슨), vice president of banking and payments partnerships at MoonPay, said, "Every time we add a payment method, we remove one more reason for people to drop off at checkout." He added, "We built MoonPay on a simple principle: every way people already pay should work for crypto too. This move allows Discover Network cardholders to buy crypto the same way they do with every other payment."
