[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Coinbase plans to increase staff at its Singapore office to about 200 from 150 by the end of 2026. Cointelegraph recently reported that Coinbase plans to step up local hiring in line with an expansion of its business in Singapore.

Coinbase plans to mainly hire engineers, customer service staff, relationship managers and institutional sales personnel. Hassan Ahmed (하산 아메드), head of Coinbase Singapore, said Singapore has established itself as a strategic hub for crypto innovation. Coinbase obtained a major payment institution licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore in October 2023, allowing it to expand services for local individuals and institutions.

In Singapore, digital payment token service providers must obtain a licence under the supervision of the Monetary Authority of Singapore. As of the 23rd, 38 companies are listed on the authority's register.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore tightened licensing requirements in 2025, and unlicensed firms withdrew from the local market. Coinbase is pursuing business expansion within the local regulatory framework.
