Consensys belatedly discovered it had outsourced work to a software developer linked to North Korea and blocked the person’s access.

Cointelegraph reported on Thursday that the developer accessed some Consensys systems for about a month.

The individual joined Consensys work early this year under the alias “Tyler Knapp”. Consensys accepted the developer as a consultant after being introduced by a third-party service provider with an existing business relationship.

After the individual was found to be linked to North Korea, Consensys temporarily halted a product launch and began an investigation. Matt Kova (맷 코바), Consensys general counsel, said the person was never hired as a Consensys employee and worked in a consultant arrangement.

Consensys immediately terminated all access in line with security procedures as soon as it became aware of the threat. Cointelegraph reported that a subsequent investigation found no evidence of asset or data theft, malicious code distribution, or any impact on user safety and security.
