Roblox has unveiled an AI feature called 'Build' that lets users create games on mobile devices using only text input. TechCrunch reported on Wednesday that users without coding experience can use Build to create a game draft, edit it and share it with friends.

'Build' automatically generates an initial version of a game when users enter a simple sentence. For example, if a user types that they want to make a cozy adventure game set in a dense forest, it creates a basic-form game.

Roblox explained that the feature can configure gameplay mechanics, environments, characters, visual style and sound all at once, based on multiple AI models including open-source models and its own models.

There are also concerns around AI game generation tools. Critics say that if text-only input lowers development barriers, low-quality or similar games could increase. Creators must compete not only with other developers but also with AI-generated content that can be made faster.

Roblox plans to rank AI-made games for exposure in the same way as existing games, using user retention as the 기준. Games that users barely visit will also see less recommendation exposure.

'Build' will begin a public alpha test in New Zealand from July 28. The test will be available to users aged 9 and older who have completed age verification. Among them, users aged 16 and older can publish their games to users worldwide. A free basic version and paid options will also be provided.

Separately, Roblox is also developing AI agents that support playtesting and analysis. Related features are expected to be launched within the next few months.
