[DigitalToday reporter Jin-ho Lee] Lee Beom-gyu (이범규), CEO of AI education company TeamSparta, donated 100 million won to support KAIST master’s and doctoral researchers in using generative AI agents.
KAIST said on Wednesday that Lee, an alumnus, donated 100 million won to the School of Computing to run a generative AI agent-based research support programme. The support is Lee's second personal contribution following one in September last year.
KAIST will use the donation to run a generative AI agent support programme for master’s and doctoral researchers across all departments for about 2 years. Researchers will use the latest AI development agents such as "Claude Code" and "Codex" and take related training and attend regular seminars.
The programme will run in 6-month terms and select 20 researchers per cohort. The first cohort will be selected within this year, and KAIST plans in the long term to expand the scope of support and participating donors.
The donation ceremony was held on Tuesday at KAIST's main campus in Daejeon. Lee, Lee Jae-gil (이재길), head of KAIST's School of Computing, and Ryu Seok-young (류석영), a professor at the School of Computing, attended.
Lee said, "I hope this support will become a small stepping stone for researchers to freely use cutting-edge AI tools and produce world-class research results."
KAIST President Bae Chung-sik (배충식) said, "An alumnus' sharing will become a foundation for researchers to actively use generative AI and take on new research challenges."
