Pearl Abyss' open-world action adventure game Crimson Desert won the Technical Achievement award at the Develop:Star Awards hosted by a British game developers' conference.
The ceremony was held on July 15 local time in Brighton, England. The Develop:Star Awards are regarded as one of the most prestigious game awards in the country, alongside the British Academy Awards (BAFTA) and the Golden Joystick Awards.
Crimson Desert won the Technical Achievement award after competing against major upcoming titles drawing attention in global markets, including Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei. It was described as recognition of the originality and development innovation of the BlackSpace Engine, a next-generation game engine Pearl Abyss developed in-house to implement a seamless open world.
The Develop:Star Awards' Technical Achievement category honours projects and products that have contributed significantly to industry development through original technology and new approaches across game software, hardware and game engines.
The industry says the award shows Pearl Abyss' commitment to developing its own engine over many years and that Crimson Desert's technical completeness has been validated in the global console and PC game markets.
