Meta is stepping up a strategy to sell paid APIs to developers after unveiling its new AI model, Muse Spark 1.1. It is highlighting price competitiveness versus OpenAI and Anthropic.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg (마크 저커버그) said in an interview with Bloomberg on July 9 that Muse Spark 1.1 would be "one of the cheapest options." "For the first time, we are rolling out a full-scale API for a model that is not open source," he said. "We will set the price very aggressively and attractively."
He said the new API would be priced at about 25 percent of OpenAI and Anthropic’s top models.
Zuckerberg pointed to agent capabilities as a major improvement in Muse Spark 1.1. He said coding performance has also improved significantly, and Meta employees are using it to develop features for multiple apps.
Meta is also introducing a new billing system for developers called the Meta Model API. Users can use it for free up to a certain token amount and pay after that.
"Pricing by other AI model developers is very extreme and has high margins," Zuckerberg said. "Meta’s strategy is to deliver the technology to as many users as possible. We can provide frontier-level intelligence at much lower cost."
