Kakao Mobility has begun cooperating with Renault Korea on vehicle software technology. Kakao Mobility said on Tuesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with Renault Korea for “next-generation vehicle experience innovation.” Under the agreement, the two companies will apply Kakao Mobility’s high-precision maps, software technology and in-vehicle service expertise to Renault Korea’s vehicle platform.

Kakao Mobility will jointly develop and verify with Renault Korea high-precision map data and software for implementing advanced driver assistance systems, or ADAS, in which a car recognises its surroundings to help the driver. Precise map information is needed for vehicles to accurately recognise lanes and obstacles. Kakao Mobility plans to conduct technology verification tailored to South Korea’s road environment through the cooperation.

The two companies will also advance an in-vehicle infotainment system, or IVI, that provides information to drivers by linking services and content such as navigation, parking and charging. They plan to integrate Kakao Mobility’s connected-car services into Renault Korea vehicles so that various mobility services can be used inside the car. The companies said this is aimed at responding to the trend toward software-defined vehicles, or SDVs, in which functions are determined by software.

The companies previously showcased the results of their cooperation at Renault Korea’s booth at the technology and startup expo NextRise 2026 held on June 17. They displayed a next-generation mobility concept car that applied Kakao Mobility’s technology and services to Renault Korea’s Grand Koleos. The agreement is the result of expanding that cooperation into a formal partnership.

Ryu Geung-sun (류긍선), chief executive of Kakao Mobility, said the cooperation with Renault Korea confirmed “new synergy” in which Kakao Mobility’s technology and services can suggest the future direction of finished vehicles. He said Kakao Mobility would continue expanding strategic partnerships with various automotive companies, including global finished-vehicle makers, and lead the future mobility experience through next-generation mobility technology innovation.
