LG Uplus has launched support for crisis-hit families of children with developmental disabilities through an employee-participation donation programme.
LG Uplus said on July 8 that, to mark the Day of Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, it delivered about 5 million won raised through its in-house donation programme, "1,000 Won of Love," to crisis-hit families of children with developmental disabilities.
The support was arranged to ease the burden of treatment costs for a child suffering both a severe disability and illness. LG Uplus worked with the Miral Welfare Foundation to select recipients and deliver the funds. The recipient is a 10-year-old boy who suffers both a severe brain disorder and a developmental disability and needs ongoing hospital treatment.
"1,000 Won of Love" is an in-house programme in which LG Uplus employees choose to donate 1,000 won or more each month through payroll deductions. Based on small donations, it has supported neighbours in need, including children with disabilities and Korean War veterans with meritorious service. Cumulative donations so far total about 320 million won.
Kim Jeong-eun (김정은), a senior member of LG Uplus' AI Service Planning Team, said, "I hope the small sincerity of employees can be of even a little help to families with disabilities and young children who are in blind spots." Kim added, "We will continue to join together so that warm hearts can be delivered to neighbours in need."
Ko Seong-won (고성원), head of fundraising at the Miral Welfare Foundation, said, "The foundation will also carry out the programme transparently and diligently so that the support funds can be of real help to the child."
