Apple is expected to offer the artificial intelligence-based Siri it will introduce this autumn only on models from the iPhone 15 Pro onward.

According to the IT outlet Engadget on July 4, the Siri upgrade can be used only on devices that support Apple Intelligence.

For iPhones, that means models released after the iPhone 15 Pro. For iPads and Macs, models with Apple silicon are included. The 2024 iPad mini is also included because it uses the same system-on-chip (SoC) as the iPhone 15 Pro.

iPhone users can check whether their device is supported in the Settings app. If the Settings menu shows an item called "Apple Intelligence and Siri", they can receive the AI-based Siri upgrade after the official release of iOS 27 this autumn.

The new Siri is expected to focus on handling more personalised commands than existing voice assistants. Beyond simple questions and answers, the core is understanding the context of a user’s request and carrying out tasks by linking needed information across multiple apps.

This is interpreted as a measure that reflects AI computing performance rather than simple software differentiation. Apple Intelligence uses a structure that combines on-device processing with cloud-based computing, and the explanation is that it requires a certain level of chip performance and sufficient memory headroom.

Still, it is a disappointing point for users of older iPhones. Even if they can receive the iOS 27 update itself, they may be excluded from key AI functions. Some observers also say Apple could link the new Siri to demand for next-generation iPhone upgrades.

It may also be provided on a limited basis at launch. Apple said it will distribute the new Siri in an initial beta form. As a result, it is more likely to be offered as an opt-in rather than being automatically applied to supported devices. As with the iOS 27 developer beta testing process, which required joining a waiting list, Siri AI may also adopt a participation-based approach.

Ultimately, this Siri upgrade is expected to make Apple Intelligence support a more important standard than the iOS update. As Apple begins to split AI functions based on device performance, the new Siri this autumn is expected to widen the perceived gap between users of older iPhones and those with the latest devices.
