[DigitalToday reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] Battery capacity for Apple’s next flagship iPhone 18 Pro Max is being discussed at 5,425 mAh for an eSIM model and 5,235 mAh for a physical SIM model.

On July 2 (local time), IT outlet 9to5Mac reported that the figures were compiled from social media-based leak information and are not confirmed as final specifications.

The figures being discussed show a noticeable increase from the previous iPhone 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Pro Max has 5,088 mAh for the eSIM model and 4,823 mAh for the physical SIM model. If the new figures are correct, battery capacity would increase for both models.

Expectations of a battery increase are not new. The market has long expected the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to carry larger batteries than their predecessors. More recently, there have also been forecasts that the increase may not be very large.

The leaked figures are drawing attention because the iPhone 17 Pro Max is already assessed as having strong battery endurance. There is also a possibility that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could pair a larger battery with improved power efficiency from the A20 Pro chip. The outlet said the iPhone 17 Pro Max already has impressive battery life and that the new model could surpass it with a “physically larger battery” and improved chip efficiency.

Still, the reliability of the information is in question. The source of the leaked figures is not clear. The information was presented based on multiple social media posts, but it is difficult to trace the original source. The outlet also pointed out that the source of the report is questionable.

Another variable is that a real data leak incident recently occurred at Apple supplier Tata Electronics. The outlet cited as the biggest basis supporting the possibility that the battery figures are accurate that the timing and leak circumstances align with the practical data breach at Tata Electronics. It is not confirmed, however, whether the figures actually came from that incident.

Ultimately, what is confirmed at this stage is that talk of a larger iPhone 18 Pro Max battery is gaining traction again. With Apple yet to disclose specifications, the figures need verification until further component leaks and supply-chain information emerge. If the figures prove true, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could have longer usage time between charges.
